Summary

Goeshi village is 1km away from the northeast of Yeonghae-myeon, the nothern of Yeongdeok.
It is the birth place of Mokeun 'Yi Saek' the great scholar of Goryeo period and Yeongyang Nam family village.
It was called "Hojichon" because of lake and fond , after that the village named after "Goeshi village" of China by Mokeun "Yi Saek"

At the end of the Goryeo dynasty, Hamchang Kim family (original home of the mother of Mokeun Yi Saek) entered this village first, and later, Suan Kim, Yeonghae Shin, and Shin Ju families lived here.
Since 1630 (King Injo 8 years), the Yeongyang Nam family settled here in full scale.
Since the mid-Joseon dynasty, there lived the Yeongyang Nam family in Goeshi village.
There are the Yeonghae plain, which is the one of three east coast fertile plains in front of the village.
Mangilbong surrounds the village in the shape of the Chinese letter 入, for which most buildings are located in the southwest.
Over 200 years old houses are arranged in the shape of the Chinese letter 口.
The entire village is arranged with alleys through mud walls, which is very impressive.

About 300 villagers are living in about 100 houses, 30 out of which preserve the style as the houses of the noble class of the Joseon dynasty.
Among them, national and local cultural places amount to 14 houses.
For such historical value, many tourists visit here.
Mokeun Cultural Festival is held every other year in the village
