Summary

Docheon forest was created 400 years ago while the town was formed.
Fhe scale of the forest was big enough to make the villlage famous as one of the rich town in Yeongdeok.
But the forest was reduced to the present size due to fire and cultivation.
They thought the shape of the mountain that looks like a snake head and threaten the village, for that reason they made the forest in the belief of Fengshui.
There are approximately 173 trees such as zelkova, Hackberry, and dogwood etc.
They are 50cm to 388cm in girth, 100 to 200 years old, and 15m to 20m in height.
Docheon forest also have traditional values and heritages of ancient ceremony called "Samgut".
In the house of forest called "Dangjip", they performed ancestral rites on the year's first full moon.
All yeong man took part in the ceremony and visited "Dangjip", whenever they leave the village for a while.
It means the Docheon forest has shown the environment -friendly ancestor's spirit in nature.
