Summary
From old times, Yeongdeok has been known as the home of round-nosed flounders, and those grown in the seas of Yeongdeok are recognized to be tastier compared to those of other areas. They are caught by installing a grill net at the path of their moving. The Japanese name of round-nosed flounders is ‘Mushigarei’, and we often call them ‘mijugari’. They grow up to 40cm. The body is in a flat oval shape. They live in the sands and mud 200 meters below the sea in the coastal area. As the range of its activity is wide and they move around a lot, their flesh is solid and light making it the best ingredient for preparing raw fish. As calcium is rich in the bones of round-nosed flounders, it helps patients with broken bones recover quickly. Although they are not being farmed yet, the catch of natural round-nosed flounder is so high in quantity that their price is cheaper compared to farmed halibuts, rockfish, or sea breams while its taste is not inferior.
